GOP City Councilmembers to Intro bill to reduce taxpayer matching funds for campaigns from 6-1 to 2-1. Is this a good start? What do you think?
The New York Post reports today that City Council Minority Leader James Oddo and the Republican Conference will introduce a bill in the Council to reduce the NYC matching capaign funds from 6-1 to 2 to 1. The bill does not abolish the matching funds system but does roll back the amount of money that taxpayers have taken from the commonweal to finance campaigns. The Conservative Party has held firm against campaign matching funds. What do you think? Is this a good start? Does the proposal not go far enough? Should the current 6-1 match be maintained? What is your opinion and does anyone think there is a chance that the measure would pass in the Council?
